Femme Couture Lip Luster in Angel Kisses Swatches & Thoughts

I picked up Femme Couture Lip Luster in Angel Kisses on clearance and Sally’s about a month ago for $3.99 and it seems that this as well as other colors in the line are still available online here and in some store locations.  What was interesting enough for me to pick this up is that it’s a flakie lip gloss, and who doesn’t enjoy looking at flakies?

Yet, flakies on lips?  Does that read as well as on nails?

Angel Kisses is 0.11 oz of clear gloss base full of glitter and sprinkled with flakies with a brush wand applicator.

It’s rather beautiful in the bottle with bright, iridescent flakies that shine from fiery orange to yellow-green.  The rest of the gloss is full of blue and pink flashes of glitter, so there’s quite a bit going on, but how does this look outside of its tube?

There is an illusion of pinkness to the gloss from the saturation of micro glitter when transferred on the hand.  What stands out the most are flakies, of course, but they are somewhat sparse unless applies in high saturation.  This swatch was two coats.  The combination of glitter and flakies have a high sparkle that accentuates the illusion of high shine wetness of the gloss formula.

It appears as if the flakies become quite a bit less visible or obvious when on top of my natural lip color.  I suppose that’s probably a good thing, though, as it makes it more wearable.

The formula is hydrating and felt good on the lips without being sticky.  The gloss is also super smooth, and you can’t feel the micro glitter or the flakies.  Of course, because it’s non-sticky, the wear time isn’t that long on me.  After about an hour or so, the gloss seems to vanish or absorb into the skin and leaves behind the glitter and some of the flakies on a satin finish.  This leaves a weird appearance on its own since it seems as if I have bare glitter on my lips.  The combination of the gloss and glitter works because it adds to the appearance of shininess.  Without the glossiness, it looks like an unsophisticated failed glitter experiment.  This could possibly be a result of the way this gloss wears on me.  It’s difficult to say.

As much as I want to like this, I’m currently not a fan of this on its own.  It seems as if it needs more color with it or beneath it for the sparkles to be more interesting.  I really need to explore layering with it a bit more, but I haven’t found any stunning combinations yet.  I am interested in trying another since the different colors all seem so different.  I saw some swatches of Sahara Rose on Goose’s Glitter here that make that color appear far more intriguing than the one I have.

Have you tried this or any of the Femme Couture Lip Lusters?  What do you think of flakies on the lips?  Do you find the idea interesting or too costume-sparkle?  I’d be curious to hear your thoughts!
